Encore!

You may have noticed by now that this blog was created to capture tweens’ attention, but we also want to reach across to all those who work and care about tweens.  We, Amanda and Colleen, are library school students at San Jose State University, and we're also diehard film enthusiasts.  We created this blog using film to promote library services and advocate for reading and literacy.   Our goal for this blog is two-fold: to create a small but diverse collection of films that explore the coming-of-age experience, and to provide ideas that link these films to programming activities and/or other collections.

Each post on our home page includes at least one additional suggestion so that the audiences' enthusiasm is sustained long after the curtains close.  Several of our films are based off of books, and a screening would be a fun and engaging way to conclude a book club or reading assignment.  Some of our films, however, are not adapted from the printed word, and for these we have suggested other books and media forms with themes that can easily be tied to those films.

At the end of several posts there is a brief section beginning with the words, "Activity idea."  These are just spontaneous musings on programming ideas inspired by the themes portrayed in the films that we believe will enhance learning.  We hope you will find our suggestions helpful, and we gladly welcome any comments and critiques.
